RuTube became a popular destination for Russian viewers after Western streaming services left the country in March 2022. The platform’s users quickly filled the gap by offering a wide variety of pirated content, including movies, TV shows and even live sporting events.
Apparently, in order to solve this problem, RuTube started hiding pirated content from users outside Russia. When a user from another country tries to access a pirated movie or TV series on RuTube, he is greeted with the following message: “The video is not available by decision of the copyright holder.”
This step is most likely an attempt by RuTube to “sit on two chairs”: to avoid lawsuits from Western copyright holders, but at the same time to give people the necessary content.
