American space technology manufacturer SpaceX faces charges from the US National Labor Relations Board. The organization claims that the company is illegally firing employees who spoke ill of its CEO, Elon Musk.
Last year, a group of SpaceX employees wrote an open letter expressing concern that Elon Musk’s behavior “often jeopardizes the company’s image and distracts employees.” At that time, the businessman was actively discussed in the media in connection with the purchase of the social network Twitter. As it turned out, SpaceX subsequently fired the employees who were involved in writing the letter.
A formal complaint from the National Labor Relations Board said management initially questioned workers about their involvement in the letter and then prohibited them from discussing it with co-workers. According to the organization’s spokesperson, Kyle Blado, SpaceX violated federal law and the right of workers to collectively demand better working conditions.
Five employees were fired the day after the letter was written, and another four were fired two months later, The New York Times reported. “SpaceX is focused on developing reusable rockets, but the company treats the people who build them as expendable,” said Paige Holland-Thielen, one of the laid-off employees.
