According to previous statements made by Huawei CEO Richard Yu, the preview version of HarmonyOS NEXT will be available to all developers in the first quarter of this year. The new system will be completely based on self-development, completely abandoning the traditional AOSP (Android Open Source Project). It will only support the HarmonyOS kernel and HarmonyOS applications.
A blogger who tested HarmonyOS NEXT reported that the system no longer supports Android apps. When opening the Android APK file, the message “This file cannot be opened” appears.
Currently, more than 400 companies have begun developing their own applications for HarmonyOS, covering a wide range of categories such as navigation, news, tools, travel, finance, lifestyle, food and gaming.
