The Wi-Fi Alliance has finally started certifying devices for the Wi-Fi 7 standard. The new technology is expected to appear in the technical data sheets of laptops, mobile phones and routers throughout the year.
The organization believes that Wi-Fi 7, which will be available on more than 233 million devices throughout 2024, will see rapid market adoption. This number is expected to increase to 2.1 billion devices by 2028.
According to the Wi-Fi Alliance, advanced features of Wi-Fi 7 include:
- Speed up to 46 Gbps (compared to 9.6 Gbps for Wi-Fi 6 and 3.5 Gbps for Wi-Fi 5);
- 320 MHz channels in countries that provide the 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi;
- Multiple Link Operation (MLO): technology that allows data to be transmitted and received simultaneously on multiple frequencies;
- 4K QAM: 20% faster transfer rates than 1024 QAM;
Overall, the new connection will improve Wi-Fi 6E in practically every aspect, being more stable, efficient and faster than the previous standard.
The new connection is expected to guarantee even faster speeds, enable more stable content transfer, reduce wireless connection delays and make gaming with wireless connections more reliable.
Launches should happen soon
Since the certification process has started, it is only a matter of time before devices compatible with Wi-Fi 7 appear. It’s worth keeping an eye on upcoming announcements to see who will be the first to launch the technology.
