Chinese police have learned to hack AirDrop to test anonymous file senders, Bloomberg writes.

The development method was developed by employees of Peking University. To do this, they scan the iPhone that received the file via AirDrop. Using their tools, police can find out the phone number or email address that makes a decision about the Apple ID on the device from which the message was sent via AirDrop.

Using this method, police have already identified several suspects.

Activists often use this method of distributing materials. For example, this was how information was disseminated during the Hong Kong protests in 2019. Users sent pictures to random iPhones that were nearby. [Bloomberg]
