Following the latest report by The New York Times, it was revealed that researchers from the Rutgers Network Contagion Institute in the US used the Creative Center to criticize the social network for hashtags and links related to the interests of the Chinese government. A comparison of TikTok and Instagram* concluded that many “sensitive” topics are significantly underrepresented on TikTok.

The Chinese social network then quickly and quietly blocked the ability to use the Creative Hub. The company noted the misuse of the tool, saying “unfortunately, some individuals and organizations have misused the Hub’s search function to draw incorrect conclusions, so we are changing some features to ensure the tool is used as intended.”

* The organization is considered extremist, its activities are prohibited in Russia.
