Amazon announced Matter Casting, a casting feature under the open Matter protocol. The function promises:It serves as a universal content transfer tool that practically does not require special hardware.

At this first moment, the tool will be implemented in Echo Show 15but Amazon plans to include it in Fire TV, including Panasonic models with built-in Fire TV. Just open the app, select the transmission feature, and choose a target device, according to the company.

Clearly, Matter Casting will open on Prime Video, but the company says support will expand to more services (Plex, Pluto TV, Starz, and others) throughout the year.

Article Casting is an open publishing method. In practice, it works similarly to Apple’s AirPlay and Google’s Chromecast, but thanks to being open source, it can be implemented on any app or device.

For Amazon, joining Matter Casting will be a positive step for the industry and will make it easier to implement interoperability between devices and applications.

If the vehicle becomes standard, the transmission incompatibility problems currently experienced between devices will also end. If you have an iPhone, you can’t stream content to your Fire TV via AirPlay, for example.

But the other two giants interested in Matter, Apple and Google, have no reason to adopt the new standard. Both have consolidated content transfer alternatives that are widely used by consumers, even with closed source.

In any case, the creation of a single, clear standard is an important step in the evolution of Matter. The goal of this new interoperability standard between smart devices needs to evolve, and Casting is an important feature of this foundation.
