The union’s chief negotiator, Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, emphasized the importance of this move, which offers new digital opportunities to professional students in a safe way.

The deal with Replica Studios includes the creation of “digital audio replicas” for use in games and business. It ensures minimum rates, secure storage and transparency in the use of copies, with restrictions on their periodic use without additional permission and compensation.

However, the agreement does not cover the use of replicas for training large language models (LLMs). Replica Studios CEO Shreyas Niwas expressed his intention to explore this possibility in the future.
