The Discord messenger will cut 17% of its employees, that is, 170 jobs, writes The New York Times, citing a statement from the company’s CEO, Jason Citron. Cuts are also expected at Disney-owned animation studio Pixar, Reuters reports citing sources. The company had already eliminated 75 jobs at the beginning of summer.
The layoffs at Pixar, according to sources, will be associated with the completion of several studio projects. Because of this, the company has more employees than necessary. The sources did not specify exactly how many positions will be eliminated.
Earlier this spring, Pixar cut 75 jobs for the first time in 10 years. The move was part of Disney CEO Bob Iger’s plan to cut 7,000 positions at the company and $5.5 billion in expenses.
And Discord, in turn, will eliminate up to 170 jobs, which is approximately 17% of employees. According to the CEO, the company is forced to face the “hard truth” that Discord recognizes the need to improve the way it works and increase the organization’s agility. Last summer, media reported that the company cut 4% of jobs during restructuring.
