VTB will launch its own payment application, VTB Pay, this year. The bank is also working to expand the VTB ID service. Interfax writes about this with reference to the deputy chairman of the bank’s board of directors, Georgy Gorshkov.
According to Gorshkov, VTB Pay will combine all available payment technologies, “including the necessary variety of QR payments. As Gorshkova notes, the bank also intends to develop biometric technologies. VTB will participate in the pilot project of the National Payment Card System.
“From my point of view, preliminary identification and, so to speak, “entry” of customers into the biometric system should be simple, more familiar, like our Face ID on the phone. This does not require any technological difficulties, but the Bank of Russia, together with technologists, is also working on it,” said a representative of VTB.
The bank received accreditation from the Ministry of Digital Development, allowing it to work with biometrics, last fall. Sberbank, MTS, Alfa Bank, Pochta Bank and Ak Bars Bank also have such authorization.
