In Russia, the right to drive for free on federal toll highways for owners of electric vehicles will be extended until 2024. This was reported by the government press service.

Authorities extend free use of electric vehicles on federal roads

This preference will be given to drivers of electric cars in 2023. The advantage was granted within the framework of the federal project “Electric car and hydrogen car”.

According to authorities, the project was a success. Throughout the year, nearly 5 thousand drivers took advantage of the benefit and made nearly 315 thousand trips.

As of January 19, free electric cars will be restored. The benefit is valid on the following routes: M-1, M-3, M-4, M-11, M-12, the Central Ring Road and the Odintsovo Northern Ring Road. In addition, these vehicles will be able to circulate free of charge on the section between km 15 and 58 of the M-11 highway.

The government indicated that this measure was one of the factors that influenced the purchase of an electric vehicle. According to the authorities, the average increase in their number in the regions adjacent to toll sections of highways amounted to 70% in 2023. In other regions the figure reaches 40%.

In addition, thanks to the benefits, the load at charging stations has increased, which makes the charging infrastructure development business more attractive for entrepreneurs.

Sales of new electric vehicles in Russia amounted to about 14,000, an increase of 4.7 times, according to Autostat data.
