Masimo CEO Joe Kiani said Apple Watch users would be better off without the blood oxygen feature.

According to Kiani, Apple advertises the watch as a “robust medical pulse oximeter,” which isn’t really that big of a deal.

Apple pretends that they provide consumers with a reliable medical pulse oximeter, although this is not the case. I truly believe that consumers are better off without it.

Kiani also added that pulse oximetry “is of no use unless it is continuous monitoring.” Apple responded by saying the feature was reliable and could save lives.

Masimo owns two patents that Apple uses for its blood oxygen conversion function. In the US, the company disabled the blood oxygen sensor in the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 to keep the watch on sale. [9to5Mac]
