However, the first gameplay videos from the closed European beta tests surprised me, to put it mildly.

Yes, it’s a full-fledged Devil May Cry gameplay point with a combo system, fighting styles, and bosses that will break the sweat at the table. Even the Void mode, where you can train combos endlessly, has been moved here.

Structurally, the game is similar to its “big” counterpart – a set of missions divided into chapters. In each task, the plus or minus is the same: go through all the locations, solve puzzles and destroy enemies.

In addition to the main missions, the game and development have modes for farming resources, without which a shareware game cannot exist. For example, the “Bloody Palace” standard for the series, which is an arena with monsters, the difficulty of which is provided with each wave. The more floors of the Palace you pass, the more rewards you get.

Also in the game you can find a unique mode “Devil’s Lands” – dungeons with random conditions. What map there will be, what buffs, debuffs or other conditions there will be is unknown in advance.

Because Free to play project format, the question immediately arises: how long will it be possible to play without investing money? I answer boldly: if you really want to, you can play without investing at all. The story and additional content can be completed without in-game purchases.

Local donation here is based on the classic system of knocking out new items and characters from banners. Oceanhorn 2 is one of the main reasons to subscribe to the Apple Arcade service. The developers clearly took inspiration from The Legend of Zelda series, specifically two parts: Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker.

From the first came structure in the big world, broken into compact places. The visual style and journey through the ship are taken from the second.

But don’t think that we have here Zelda for those who don’t have a Nintendo. Their chips are also in the game. For example, the hero does not lead alone, but with a team of partners. They can be given simple orders at the level of “go there” or “hit this one.” Also, many puzzles are based on turns with partners.

And yet, unlike Zelda, there is still leveling here. The hero gains experience in killing opponents. And new levels unlock simple passive skills. And also, similar to classic 3D platformers, there are small challenges.

3. Divinity – Original Sin 2 (for iPad)

✔️ A huge role-playing game from the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Strictly speaking, we already have a long review of Divinity – Original Sin 2, so I’ll keep it short.

Larian Studios has maintained its meticulous approach to creating party-based RPGs. Most likely, it is their projects that I can recommend to those who want that same “DND experience”, but without the need to visualize loading with regular goblins in the chapter.

Divinity – Original Sin 2 itself is not just an RPG, a large sandbox, not inferior in variety to Baldur’s Gate 3. Even getting the key to the fort doors at the beginning can be done in many ways, let alone the whole adventure as a whole.

4. The Wolf Among Us

A little classic in your application. The Wolf Among Us is a noir detective story set in the Fables comic book universe from Bill Willingham.

In the world of this fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast pretend that they are an ideal married couple, the Lumberjack, who saved Little Red Riding Hood, drinks like a horse and constantly swears.

We have the role of the same Great Gray Wolf (BigB, so that he is located), in the outside world he is a detective. Such a classic, gloomy, cynical and tired of life and his charges. I won’t go into details of the plot – the local story drags on from the depths even at the beginning stage.

Ideally played on the phone. After all, the genre is an interactive visual novel in a modern format. It’s not like the player is overly burdened with riddles, searching for objects, and anything else that can distract from the plot. But there are more than enough dynamics: from dialogues, where you need to quickly and thoughtfully choose what to answer, to QTEs with dragons.

There is only one minus in the project – the game is plot-oriented, but has not been translated into Russian.

But if the language barrier is not a problem, then skip it already practically a classic I absolutely do not recommend it.

5. Forgotten Memories (for iPad)

✔️ True Survival Horror in your pocket.

Speaking of classics. Do you like a genre like Survival Horror? I am very. But, unfortunately, neither Silent Hill, nor Forbidden Siren, nor KUON have done this on phones in an adequate form. That shameful don’t even remember the interactive series – it’s a spit from the Silent Hill series.

Fortunately, the same thing exists on mobile devices, one of the outstanding representatives of this genre. Forgotten Memories – gives the world Silent Hill and Twin Peaks. It does this primarily through the environment and atmosphere, and not through the gameplay.

The plot follows Rosie Hawkins, a girl who finds herself in a mysterious state of partial amnesia. The last thing she remembers is being shot. Hawkins is a detective, and before the fateful event she was investigating an English little girl.

To figure out what happened, why the entire environment is sliding into a chthonic hell, and why she helps the inner nurse, this future player.

The gameplay is reminiscent of the titles mentioned above more than once. We study nature, collect notes and fight enemies in conditions of extremely limited resources.

There are few cartridges at medium and high difficulty levels, the flashlight runs out quickly, and the monsters hit very hard.

Forgotten Memories is a unique project for the platform. There are practically no real Survival Horror games on iOS: Dead Space comes to mind, but it has been removed from the store and is no longer available. It is unknown whether there will be such a part of “Forgotten Memories”, so I do not recommend skipping it… and playing without headphones.

6. Tower of Fantasy

✔️ A large action-RPG with an open world about a post-apocalypse in the style of Genshin Impact.

Tower of Fantasy is considered by many to be a clone of Genshin Impact. Is it fair? Not really. They have different settings and even genres.

From the very beginning, Tower of Fantasy surprises with a very well-developed character editor. You can create an appearance and a starting suit.

According to the plot, we have a post-apocalypse here. Planet Earth became uninhabitable, and 12,000 people, along with the biological base of the planet, began to look for a new dependency for the life of the planet. Naturally, it was ours, and it is precisely this that we have to discuss. And here the main character is voiced and talks, yes.

Gameplay Tower of Fantasy is an Action-RPG with a large open world, quests, dungeons and all the constitutional mobile means. semi-MMO pieces. What is she doing in this collection? The game is very stylish and addictive, including the setting, which is finally not tired of fantasy.

The gacha system here is tied to weapons and Mimics. Your character is stationary, but you can get a unique weapon on it, which is complemented by a model of the character who will use it. In the story, Dr. Eggman uses the power of dreams to create his own evil empire. Naturally, Sonic and his comrades will at least bother him. The plot is presented at a decent level – with the help of animated comics and even cut scenes.

The gameplay is not inferior to the “big” games in the series: it is still the same super-dynamic platformer with a killer soundtrack. There are only 12 levels and 4 bosses. The passage, according to the classics, is relatively linear, but sometimes there are alternative paths.

Controls, and this is the most important aspect for games of this format, are maximally adapted for mobile devices. It’s a pleasure to play, with fast-paced, “well, I jumped!” moments. was not injured during the entire 4 hour test. Yes, the game is a bit short, but it is somewhat dynamic and does not get boring.
