The authorities want to offer Russians the possibility of checking into hotels through Gosuslugi. The corresponding law is scheduled to be adopted in April of this year. This is stated in a message from the Russian Cabinet of Ministers.
Thus, the government wants to simplify citizens’ stays in hotels and inns. According to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, last year the flow of tourists throughout the country exceeded pre-pandemic indicators. According to the president of the Russian Union of the Travel Industry, Ilya Umansky, in 2023, 75 million Russians traveled throughout the Russian Federation, making 86 million trips.
What changes can the government approve?
- In addition to registration through State Services, Russian travelers throughout the country may be allowed to register using a foreign passport without regard to their place of permanent residence.
- In addition, authorities are exploring the possibility of allowing remote registration of visitors. When checking in, in this case, biometric data will be used without the need to present the passport.
- The authorities are also waiting for a draft law introducing the concept of “ski resort”, which will allow a list of infrastructure facilities to be established.
- And in September the government intends to consider changes to the Code of Administrative Offenses. Possible amendments would hold guides and tour guides liable for violations of the law. Without proper certification, they will face fines.
