Some owners of BMWs imported to Russia through parallel imports began to complain about yet another restriction on the part of the company.

It is reported that BMW has disabled the ability to connect a smartphone to the car’s media system. In particular, there is no way to connect an iPhone using CarPlay.

However, please note that when you turn off the telemetry unit, CarPlay works normally, but other systems stop working.

[Обновлено] One of Mash’s subscribers, founder and expert Autoexpert of the Russian Federation Egor Volkov commented on the news:

This is all a very big farce. In 21, the My BMW application was released. Its essence is that you could start the car from anywhere in the world and check the fuel supply. Yes, this app is not working right now. The telemetry unit, through which they threaten to turn off everything, is responsible for the standard navigation in the car, which is simply terribly useless: it doesn’t read traffic jams, it doesn’t know the streets in Moscow, and I’m generally silent about the regions. Nobody gets this anyway.

The telemetry unit can be turned off for 2,000 rubles and 15 minutes at any BMW service center that has standard diagnostics. If anything, this has nothing to do with the car – the standard navigation just doesn’t work for you. In general, the problem can be solved very easily, it’s just that now for some reason they are spreading panic and scaring people.
