The experience of former entrepreneurs becoming employees is a disadvantage for 44% of companies, a SuperJob survey showed, in which representatives of 500 companies from all districts of the Russian Federation responsible for recruiting personnel took part.

“Unmanageable”: 44% of employers rated the candidate’s business experience as a disadvantage

“These are no longer artists. Uncontrollable”; “They find it difficult to adapt to the contracted work. High expectations”; “Lack of skills: subordination, compliance with work schedules and rest”; “They are basically trying to revive their business at the expense of the employer”; this is how employers explain their reluctance to hire former individual entrepreneurs (IE).

Only in one in nine companies does HR consider business experience to be an advantage for the applicant, and such experience is usually valued positively in small companies (14%). 37% of human resources managers affirm that experience in managing their own company does not affect employment in any way.

Large companies are the most loyal to former individual entrepreneurs: 53% of entrepreneurs say that they treat these applicants without prejudice.

How do employers evaluate the experience of applicants who have had their own business or individual entrepreneurs who want to become employees? Is this an advantage, a disadvantage or does it not affect employment in any way?

In general, SuperJob points out, human resources managers are increasingly less likely to take business experience into account: if in 2021 only 26% indicated that running their own business in the past did not affect employment in any way, now the figure is 37%.
