The government has banned the purchase of foreign securities using IIS. Initially it was assumed that the securities of companies in the EAEU countries would be free of restrictions. The introduced ban also applies to bonds issued by foreign countries.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers, Mikhail Mishustin, signed a decree prohibiting the purchase of foreign securities in individual investment accounts. The document was published on the legal information portal.

The introduced ban also applies to securities issued by foreign countries.

The fact that the purchase of securities of foreign issuers could be prohibited on IIS first became known in April 2022. Subsequently, the Ministry of Finance made an official proposal: encouraging Russians to purchase foreign securities is not appropriate under the sanctions pressure, the department considered.
