This innovation, which is already available to Android users, is now also available to iPhone owners.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iPhone published on TestFlight adds a new menu for passkey setup. This feature has not been activated yet, but it is expected to be available to beta users soon.

Passkey technology, developed by the FIDO Alliance in collaboration with companies such as Apple, Google and Microsoft, allows users to log in using secure authentication methods such as facial recognition or biometrics, eliminating the need to create and enter passwords.

Starting with iOS 16, users could create and save a passkey using Safari and iCloud Keychain.

Now with the release of iOS 17, this functionality is being extended to third-party apps. It can be used with Face ID or Touch ID on Apple devices.
