Windows 11 got built-in support RAR and 7-ZIP archives. in the last major update in 2023. Although the idea sounded good, implementation was limited to basic operations. This will change very soon as Microsoft will allow you to adjust the file compression radius.
Latest version Windows 11 Insider adds Compression Assistant into the conductor. The new feature offers more options when compressing a file, for example: format and compression method. Also added is a compression level where we can choose whether we want a smaller file or prefer it to be created faster.
Among the formats available to create the file we find 7zip, TAR and ZIP, and the compression methods available are BZip2, Gzip, Deflate, Xz, Zstandard, LZMA and LZMA2. We can also select the “Store” option when we only need group multiple files into one file without compression. If you have shortcuts, Windows 11 will offer to save symbolic links so that they work smoothly in the final file.
Compression Wizard accessible via Windows context menu when selecting one or more files. To access it, simply select “Advanced Options” from the secondary menu where you select the format to compress.

Compared to 7zip, The custom compression options offered by Windows 11 are basic. and they are perfect for the average user. Recall that not everyone is interested in choosing the size of the dictionary, the number of CPU threads, or the amount of memory allocated to run a process. Most people will probably prefer the well-known format (ZIP) and adjust the compression level until they get the desired result.
Windows 11 will get more changes in its first update in 2024

This version also added other important features operating system, such as immediate access to mobile photos and screenshots, or USB 80Gbps support on laptops with 14th Gen Intel processors.

Microsoft too will change the Windows 11 installer to make the installation process clearer.. The installation screen will remain behind the purple background with a button in the center and will give way to a format more consistent with the experience we have when upgrading when we already have a version of the operating system.
The changes included in Windows 11 build 2640 will be available to all users in the coming weeks. This version also features two oddities: it will be the first to feature old WordPad is no longer included in a clean OS installation and a new task manager icon will appear.
