Half of the first season of the new series “The Others” has already been released on Kinopoisk.
During this time he managed to become quite popular. Of course, it is far from “The Boy’s Word,” but at the moment it is a good result, judging by the constantly growing demand on the Internet.
The project’s runner is Alexandra Remizova, co-author of “The New Left Patient.” All six episodes were directed by Vladimir Raksha.
We have already watched the first three episodes out of six. Let’s share our impressions. There is much to praise the news here.
Alternative everything Alternative that was not expected
The idea of a reworked USSR setting is not new. The most important thing when working with him is presentation. And here the authors were able to approach the question with curiosity.
What is the series about?: alternative 40s, Leningrad. The rescued brother, a fragile girl throws this truck and tram with the help of supernatural force, does not know how to control. They call themselves “Others” because they were born with a special gift. How to dispose of it is up to everyone to decide for themselves. But the collision of two worlds is only a matter of time. The mysterious foreigner Neumann begins the hunt for an unusual girl from Leningrad, marking the beginning of the largest war in human history.
The series is based on a detective scene. Our footage shows the first operations on mystical and mysterious characters, including the mysterious stranger Neumann played by Wolfgang Czerny.
It is this actor who carries the entire series. Czerny goes through the full range of emotions in just three episodes, and you believe him.
At the same time, the main character Anna, played by Irina Martynenko, seems completely spineless. Martynenko goes through the whole series with one expression on his face and literally rejects him. There is no desire to follow her character.
Of course, the main characters have their own motives and goals, but they are in no hurry to realize them. After episode 3, you don’t understand what’s happening on the screen at all, the story moves in their own hoaxes.
And although the life of “others” spends most of the time, the series has many secondary characters, on whom the authors also try to focus. True, the story of Likholetov, who wants to sort out the incident at the crossroads and at the same time reveals the secrets of superhumans, stands out against their background.
The main plot itself is very straightforward and rewarding. You know from the very beginning how it will grow and where it will come. But despite this, thanks to the high-quality presentation, you don’t want to look away from the screen.
The atmosphere is the strong point of the project
The authors of the film carefully considered the development of the local universe and added a large number of details to the narrative. The locations are varied and aesthetic, you literally feel this period with its mystifications and all the features.
Many of the scenes are CG-based, but the effects don’t look hand-drawn. They look natural. Particularly fascinating is one of the opening scenes with a large airship in a vast area.
The creators of the game worked on everything down to the smallest detail, for which they expressed special respect. Each location carries its own mood, and you feel it for yourself. From a spacious square with happy townspeople to a depressing underground laboratory and a Nazi ball, where you feel uncomfortable literally from the first minutes.
It’s a shame that there is no clear soundtrack in the film. Compositions are rarely integrated, and they are not at all memorable.
You can watch it, but it’s not necessary
“The Others” is an unsuccessful attempt to create a small comic book film. It’s interesting to watch what happens, but the main characters aren’t that compelling. But you quickly immerse yourself in the local atmosphere, thanks to which you can fully experience what is happening for yourself.
This series makes the chain even more visual, but nothing more. You can either skip it or watch it – you won’t lose anything.
