The rules aim to develop common European standards for regulating artificial intelligence across all sectors, from banking to social and technology. Rules on the use of artificial intelligence in the fields of state security, military and law enforcement will also be developed.
In addition, the future law aims to improve competition in the development of artificial intelligence. The European Commission is also monitoring the development of deepfakes, so efforts will aim to combat these manipulations.
To comply with the procedure, on February 13 the relevant EU committee will vote to adopt the law, followed by a vote in the European Parliament. The new rules will come into force in mid-spring 2024 and begin to be implemented in 2026.
