According to Vurasko, scammers make calls on behalf of Russian banks and begin to press without much publicity over fears of accounts being blocked for security, allegedly because the user has not installed a specific update for the credit institution’s application. .
Scammers claim that without the application, the customer loses the digital security of his account, so the bank will block all assets “for security reasons”. In fact, if a bank client believes the attackers, he will install software for remote management of the device on his smartphone, and using this software, fraudsters will perform various financial transactions on behalf of the user.
In order to avoid any scams or consequences, Vurasko advised not to trust people who call so-called on behalf of the bank, and to contact the organization directly in case of any questions or doubts.
In no case should you install unknown applications, especially those installed by unknown people. Antivirus software must be installed.
And in no case should you transmit usernames, passwords or SMS codes over the phone.
“The feature of the new round of fraud is that the attackers do not make long preparatory speeches, but, under the threat of blocking accounts, immediately persuade the person to install the appropriate software on the phone,” Vurasko said.
