It is an unmanned vehicle on a wheeled chassis, equipped with a computer vision system, navigation and hydraulic clutch. The robot can automatically pick up felled trees, maneuver through various forest terrains, and collect logs efficiently.

However, the robot works under the control of an operator who monitors the situation and can stop the machine if necessary. Additionally, the robot can minimize collateral damage to the environment due to regular logging. The author of the study is Dr. Pedro La Guera spoke about this.

“Beyond the short-term impact on forestry, technological advances related to autonomous forestry machines have the potential to solve existing environmental problems. “Our tests have shown that the use of autonomous navigation and manipulation algorithms, together with other advanced technologies, allows autonomous machines to not only deliver more efficient timber harvests, but also contribute to the development of sustainable forestry.”
