China’s leading tech giant Baidu has signed a strategic partnership with Lenovo to bring its Ernie Large Language Model (LLM)-based AI bot pre-installed on the manufacturer’s smartphones. Previously, to introduce its advanced generative AI technologies to popular devices, Baidu entered into similar agreements with Samsung and Honor.
The partnership between Baidu and Lenovo highlights the growing importance of AI applications in smartphones and reflects a broader industry trend of integrating advanced technologies into personal devices to improve the user experience. Analysts see this integration as “must-have features in the future,” writes Gizmochina.
Lenovo plans to capitalize on pre-installing Baidu Ernie on its branded smartphones as it sees an obvious trend: a sharp rise in the popularity of generative AI applications for mobile devices.
In China, where American AI programs are not available, the market is dominated by local companies Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent, which offer more than 200 LLM models.
Robin Li, CEO of Baidu, highlighted the importance of the partnership with Lenovo precisely in the context of effective competition with American developers of artificial intelligence solutions.
