In the Leningrad region they plan to create a new furniture brand that could replace IKEA, which left Russia. The idea of uniting Belarusian suppliers that previously collaborated with the Swedish company is being considered in the region.
According to the press service of the government of the Leningrad region, regional governor Alexander Drozdenko attended a presentation of product samples from local furniture manufacturers, partners of IKEA, organized by the Bellesbumprom consortium.
The parties are discussing the idea of ”collecting” IKEA under a new brand. It is reported that in Belarus it was possible to completely replace the hardware and even produce a test batch of boxes with instructions for assembling furniture, similar to those of the Swedish brand.
“Many industries operating under the IKEA umbrella initially lacked competencies in logistics and trade. But the assembly of the trading system has already begun. The Leningrad region participates,” the governor said.
This is not the first attempt to replace IKEA, which left the market, in Russia and Belarus. In the spring of 2023, the first store of the Belarusian company Swed House opened in Moscow. The chain sells IKEA products, as well as its own analogues of the Swedish brand’s products.
Previously it became known that IKEA extended the rights to the IKEA and “IKEA” brands in Russia until 2033.
