The German Daimler Truck consortium (part of the Mercedes-Benz group) sold a 15% stake in the Russian truck manufacturer Kamaz in 2024. The last major Western investor abandoned the domestic automobile industry.
The consortium’s future plans for the company are unknown. The names of the buyers and the transaction amount are not disclosed, Vedomosti writes.
Five years ago, Daimler and Kamaz opened a tractor cab frame factory at the latter’s production center in Naberezhnye Chelny. The project manager was the joint venture Daimler Kamaz Rus (“DK Rus”). The plant with a capacity of 55 thousand cabins cost 14 billion rubles. Daimler Truck suspended cooperation with Kamaz in February 2022.
In January 2023, Kamaz consolidated 100% of DK Rus and renamed it Trucks Vostok Rus. A few months earlier, this company became a distributor of the Compass line of medium vans, which Kamaz produces in collaboration with the Chinese company JAC.
- Kamaz aims to achieve revenue of 806 billion rubles by 2030. This goal is outlined in the automaker’s strategic development program. Truck sales should be at the level of 60 thousand units. The manufacturer also hopes to increase the export share to 16%.
