a story Cat “shopping” at Amazon using Echo Show 8 It went viral on social media this week. This Thursday (15th), the curious story has already been viewed more than 5.6 million times on X (formerly Twitter).

The author of this achievement is Nutella, a Bengal cat about 4 years old. His teacher, Matheus Nascimento, a supermarket businessman in Propriá, Sergipe, explains: TecMundo How did everything happen?

He explains that he and his young son had cameras in their home for security purposes, and thanks to these cameras, the pet’s movements were “captured”. But before we found out whose money he was spending on online shopping, there was a moment of interrogation.

“It was Carnival Tuesday and I was taking a nap at home. When I woke up there was a purchase notification on my card and I thought it was weird. “I asked my wife nothing, and my sisters-in-law, nothing,” he explains.

After the denials about him who spent R$ 300 on a wooden barbecue boardAlready knowing who the main suspect was, he began the investigation.

‘No one believes the census’

Matheus says he likes to lie down next to Nutella’s Echo Show 8 because the place is warm and comfortable. This information led him to immediately search for footage to check whether his opinion was correct.

That day, the businessman recalls, the smart speaker with Alexa actually showed buying suggestions. The recordings showed that Nutella took full advantage of one of these suggestion moments to interact with the screen and complete the transaction.

The cat’s life became “easier” because Matheus enabled the “one-click purchase” option. He jokes that after the story he disabled this setting to prevent situations like this from happening again. You can watch the video of Nutella shopping on Amazon below:

“People are suspicious, saying it’s a lie, a fake, a story. But I say this really happened and no one believes it. Even if I show the video, there are people who don’t believe it, it’s so funny and ridiculous,” says the cat’s owner.

Matheus notes that this isn’t the first time his cat pet has activated something on the Echo Show, he’s already put songs to play and even added them to recipes. But he did not expect that his pet would be able to choose and complete a purchase.

Order cancellation

Matheus Nascimento even tried to cancel the order through the Amazon app but received an email stating that this would not be possible. E-commerce stated in its statement that it had to return the product as soon as it was received.

Another solution offered by the company was to refuse to accept the board when it was delivered. For now, the product is on its way and is expected to arrive between February 19 and March 5.

The entrepreneur, who was asked whether he would continue the purchase especially for Nutella, was extremely determined. “And I don’t need anything, especially a board worth R$ 300. God forbid,” he jokes.
