The number of requests for data leaks by Russian users in 2023 decreased by 8% compared to 2022. Vedomosti writes about this, citing the statistical service Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence.
At the same time, the number of published strings in merged databases increased by 24% in 2023 and amounted to 342 million.
According to Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence, last year there were 155 cases published based on data from Russian companies. Most often, connection leaks occur in companies from the retail and Internet services sectors.
Leakage of confidential information in every second successful attack on Russian companies. But there are fewer reports of leaks, as some of them are still hidden.
They were able to directly negotiate with the attackers so that they would not publish the data publicly. Hackers also carefully approach company representatives, because it is important for them to receive a ransom, and not to publish data.
The companies are disclosing the breach in part because of the National Data Breach Penalty Act. It has already passed the first reading in the State Duma.
Now companies that leak data are fined 100-300 thousand rubles. If the bill is adopted, then for the first case of data leakage, the company will impose a fine of 3–15 million rubles (depending on the number of records that are publicly available). For a leak, companies will face a turnover fine of 0.1 to 3% of revenue for the year or part of the current year, no less than 15 million and no more than 500 million rubles. [Ведомости]
