The British investment banker, public figure and representative of the Rothschild dynasty, Jacob Rothschild, died at the age of 87, Bloomberg reports citing a statement from the financier’s family.

Jakbe Rothschild’s family did not specify the cause of death. The statement said that the financier played an important role in the lives of many people, he was a lover of the arts, a dedicated public servant and a passionate supporter of charitable work in Israel. The message also mentions Jakbe Rothschild’s environmental work.

According to the report, the financier’s funeral will be celebrated “according to Jewish custom,” with a small family ceremony.

Jacob Rothschild was born in 1936 in Berkshire, United Kingdom, the great-great-grandson of Nathan Mayer Rothschild, the third son of the founder of the business dynasty, Mayer Amschel Rothschild.

Jacob Rothschild studied at Eton College and also at one of Oxford’s universities, Christ Church. From 1963, Rothschild worked at the family bank NM Rothschild & Sons in London. In 1980 he left the organization due to family differences.

That same year, Jacob Rothschild founded his own financial advisory firm, J. Rothschild Assurance Group (now St. James’s Place plc), with financier Mark Weinberg.

Jacob Rothschild is also the founder of Windmill Hill Asset Management, which was created to manage the family’s philanthropy.

He also served as chairman of BSkyB Television and chairman of the board of trustees of the National Gallery, London.

Jacob Rothschild and his wife Serena Mary Dunn have four children.
