Apple has canceled the project to create an electric car, known as Project Titan, writes Bloomberg.

The company has already announced its employees. Approximately 2 thousand people were involved in the project. The decision to close was supported by Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams and Kevin Lynch, Vice President of Project Titan.

Many employees will be transferred to the artificial intelligence development division and will be engaged in the creation of generative AI.

Apple’s automotive service also employs several hardware engineers and designers. They may be able to move to other departments. There will also be layoffs, but it is unknown how many people this will affect.

Apple began producing electric vehicles in 2014. The company wanted to release a car with autopilot by 2028.

Several billion dollars were invested in the project. Apple changed its guidance and outlook several times, but this did not contribute much to progress.

Additionally, the machine was expected to cost about $100,000, and the company doubted whether it could generate as much profit as other products. [Bloomberg]
