This move is in line with the growing global trend towards a “circular economy”, where resources are used over a longer period of time. Currently, only 7.2% of the global economy is considered “cyclical.”

Under the new Lenovo Certified Refurbished (LCR) program, the company will offer used computers and servers that have undergone rigorous processing. This includes data cleansing, replacing or upgrading components when necessary, and extensive quality testing. Lenovo reassures users that security and performance will not be compromised, and renewed devices come with a standard warranty of up to three years and upgradeability.

LCR will initially be available in the UK, Denmark, France and Germany, with a global rollout planned in the future. It will also be integrated with Lenovo’s TruScale Device as a Service (DaaS) program. Although specific models have not yet been confirmed, Lenovo’s website mentions “best-in-class PC and server devices.”

The company is currently running pilot projects to determine which models will be included in the program and eventually aims to offer its entire fleet of computers and servers through LCR. However, the exact dates for this have not been announced yet.
