The Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia appealed to the government and the State Duma to request that import duties on wine from NATO countries be set at 200%. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to the organization’s executive secretary, Alexei Plotnikov.

The association also advocates introducing a 20% quota for Russian wine in stores from September 1, with a new increase, and 50% for restaurants and cafes. It is suggested to include local wines at the beginning of the menu. Another proposal from winemakers is to cancel the preferential import duty regime for Georgian wines.
In July 2023, the Ministry of Economic Development proposed to increase duties on imports of wines from hostile countries by 1.5 times, from 12.5% to 20%, but not less than 1.5 dollars per liter. The measure was developed as a “counter-sanction” and is valid throughout 2024.
- In November 2022, it proposed expanding the minimum retail price mechanism for all alcoholic beverages. Currently, these prices are set for spirits, sparkling wines and champagne. The current minimum retail prices are valid until the end of 2026.
