Rostelecom’s senior vice president for information technology, Dariy Khalitov, said in an interview with RTVI that Google services could be blocked in Russia.

The same applies, among other things, to owners of Android smartphones. For example, they will be completely deprived of push notifications, access to Gmail, and so on. Android is not a Russian system, and its technologies are independent of the system.

Various small services that we use in everyday life, Google Mobile Services, so-called, are, in fact, not the one that includes the active component of the Android system: these are various geo-layer tags, weather forecasts and many many other things , on the basis of which all other digital applications actually work, be it a call to a courier, a taxi, etc. All of this is actually very dependent on Google Mobile Services, and they can be blocked.

And, as the practice of recent years shows, in this world everyone can speak. Therefore, in general, if desired, such YouTube services, like Android phones, can turn into, maybe not a pumpkin, but taking into account the complexities that our users can use.

When this could have happened and from whose side, Khalitov did not specify. [RTVI]
