Skyeng has developed a solution based on artificial intelligence (AI) that allows determining the level of English from a person’s speech. The company told RB.RU about it. The product was called Detroit Test.

It is reported that the 15-minute test allows evaluating the student’s current level with an accuracy of 95%.
“In the future, this solution can become an alternative to IELTS and TOEFL exams in Russia,” Skyeng believes. The Detroit Test is available to any user; You can register to do it using this link.
Now the test, in addition to user-level analysis, analyzes errors in speech and offers possible options on how to express it better. A special feature of the solution is the recognition of English speech, taking into account the accent of Russian speakers and their errors. This allows the recommendation system to more correctly recognize speech and, based on it, suggest adjustments.
The test is based on several internal Skyeng developments. Thanks to them, the user’s active vocabulary is studied and predictive analysis also works, which can predict what other vocabulary the user knows.
The words themselves are also analyzed for their meaning and use in speech, rather than for consonance, because different vocabulary can be used both in simple constructions at the A1-A2 level and in more complex ones.
1,000 people participated in the closed tests of the model.
