Social network X seeks to compete with YouTube by launching an “identical” dedicated Smart TV application on Amazon and Samsung televisions. X owner Elon Musk’s goal is to encourage users to watch “long videos on the big screen,” which will increase reach and views and attract advertisers as a result.

The company plans to launch the app next week, an anonymous source within X told Fortune. In addition to YouTube, Musk sees competition in TV formats from Twitch, Signal and Reddit.

In January, X, looking to carve out a niche for itself among streaming services, announced that it was “now a video platform.” But this idea is not new: even when it was Twitter, the company tried to launch television applications three times.

Musk’s vision for video streaming appears to focus on media celebrities, online influencers and online video game streaming, Fortune said.

The platform recently hired former CNN host Don Lemon for a new show exclusively on X, and former Fox News pundit Tucker Carlson frequently posts full-length videos on X.

Famous blogger Mr. Beast, with 243 million subscribers, tested the platform’s capabilities by uploading a full video following Musk’s call to move all his video content to X and earned more than $250,000.

And yet, experts recall that, despite all the owner’s efforts, the social network mass X. A new report from Edison Research found that platform usage has fallen 30% over the past year.

X’s value also fell sharply during Musk’s ownership. X shareholder Fidelity says the platform is now 71.5% cheaper than when Musk bought it for $44 billion.
