AirPods, thanks to their transparency mode and microphone amplification, have long been a sought-after personal, inexpensive hearing aid. However, no one officially allowed them to be used that way.

Now, authoritative journalist Mark Gurman has reported that iOS 18 will feature the same operating mode for AirPods Pro.

AirPods already have a feature called Live Listening. It rotates the iPhone into a directional microphone, transmitting audio from the iPhone to the AirPods in real time.

These headphones also have a Coversation Boost option, which allows the accessory to better focus on the conversation next to the user.

However, it is not yet known how exactly Apple will convert the function into the equivalent of a hearing device. Gurman did not share details of the innovations. [9to5]
