The cloud platform Yandex Cloud has developed a neural network capable of recognizing a person’s emotions during a voice dialogue, the company said in a statement.

Now the ML model can determine negativity, informal statements and obscene language, as well as the gender of the speaker. Later, the algorithm should work together with YandexGPT: together, neural networks will be able to recognize more complex emotions, such as sarcasm.
The neural network was developed based on Yandex SpeechKit speech recognition technology. The new development will allow companies to create voice assistants and virtual call center operators that can recognize human emotions.
The ML model works in streaming mode: the decoding and analysis of emotions occur directly during a conversation. If the voice assistant finds the subscriber to be negative or rude, it will notify management about the problems.
The algorithm can determine emotions not only by the content of the speaker’s speech, but also takes into account speed, pitch, timbre and other speech parameters.
