According to Mendeleev, Vasilyev is accused of helping to evade anti-Russian sanctions and the extradition process against him has already begun.
Dmitry Vasilyev’s mobile phone was opened and confiscated; He attempted to prove that Kazakhstan had no claim against him, according to the report.
Currently, local lawyers work with Vasiliev and his projects are “in the good hands of his closest partners,” the Exved director emphasized, adding that this is all the information he has.
The Wex cryptocurrency exchange was founded in 2017. In 2018 it practically ceased to exist, depriving clients of invested assets and funds.
This is not the first time that Dmitri Vasiliev has been detained in Europe: in 2019 he was detained in Italy, in 2021 in Poland, in both cases at the request of Kazakhstan. However, authorities found no grounds to extradite Vasiliev to Kazakhstan. In 2022, he was arrested in Croatia on suspicion of embezzling €450 million.
