We check the Internet speed on our smartphone all the time. For example, I use them to understand the terms of a non-compliance agreement, as well as to check the Internet capabilities when including a large file or obvious problems with connection stability.
Almost everyone downloads the Speedtest program for this. OOKLA is a generally accepted test speed standard. But there are problems with it.
Some believe that operators and providers deliberately “falsify” the results of OOKLA tests, you are allowing them much more speed than they actually have. And no other services have problems with speeds above two or three hundred megabits per second.
However, you still don’t know the storage time of the iPhone; you’ve been carrying the built-in Internet speed test with you for a couple of years now. It is very deeply hidden in iOS. But you can unlock it once and then always have access to it.
You will need a Mac to unlock this feature. You can also use someone else’s.
How to unlock the built-in Internet speed test in iOS
To enable the feature we need to enable Developer Mode in iOS. This can be done in several ways. In the article I will consider the most straightforward and does not require installation it is unclear what is unknown from where on your devices.
Are you presenting:
▪ iPhone with iOS version 16.0 and later
▪ Mac
▪ Latest version of Xcode for Mac (download here)
▪ 5 minutes of time
Before you start, check what you don’t already have Developer Mode on iPhone. For this introduction Settings and find the item Development in the main menu. If it’s not there, keep reading. If there is, skip the next instruction and go to the next subheading.
► Connect iPhone to Mac via cable.
► On macOS, launch Xcode. Open a more detailed description Window → Devices and Simulators. If there is something that interests you in the program, agree to everything.
► On iPhone open Settings → Privacy and Security → Developer Mode (at the very bottom of the list) → ON. We agree with the warning.
► iPhone will reboot. After that it will show the warning to enable again Developer Mode. Invite to the game Turn on.
Congratulations, you’ve enabled Developer Mode. It is available here: Settings → Developer. If necessary, you can always include it in the same menu.
How to open the built-in Internet speed test on iPhone
WITH Developer Mode On iPhone, you have access to many hidden device settings. I advise you not to touch anything there if you don’t know what you’re doing and why.
Instead, it is better to consider the solution to the problem of the article – opening an Internet speed test. It is safe.
1. On iPhone go to Settings → Developer
2. Looking in a long list of items Bandwidth → Test Bandwidth
3. Click on Start testing.
Testing will be carried out according to a simple scheme. If Wi-Fi is connected, its speed will be tested. If Wi-Fi is not connected, the Internet speed test will start on the SIM card that you use for cellular data (mobile Internet).
4. After ten to twenty seconds, results are observed. If a window with an error pops up, do not pay attention – the speed test will be carried out correctly in any case.
That’s it, take a screenshot and go complain to your provider or operator. Since Apple is not an interested party, and in Russia its speed test is clearly not based on any existing “opsos”, the test results can be considered the most impartial.
But remember that it is better to do not one, but several tests in a row. And only after making sure that the circumstances do not change very much from time to time, is it worth putting pressure on the shoulders of your Internet “supplier”.
