Specialists from Sechenov University have developed a glove to restore motor skills after a stroke. Similar devices already exist, but are not manufactured in Russia, the university tells RIA Novosti.

The development is a glove with five silicone actuators, which are located on the top of the patient’s fingers and, under the influence of compressed air, change shape, helping to bend them.
A stroke can cause weakness and loss of mobility in the fingers and hands, and motor skills can be restored with physical therapy and exercises. The device allows the fingers to be automatically bent to regain their mobility, the report states.
The developers say their glove will help the patient develop muscle memory by repeating a given set of movements over and over again.
In Russia, among the causes of mortality, stroke is second only to myocardial infarction. According to the All-Russian Center for Preventive Medicine, 25% of men and 39% of women die in the country from cerebrovascular diseases.
