The study, published in the journal Nature Machine Intelligence, focuses on identifying the subtle genetic underpinnings of heart traits. Analyzing more than 50,000 3D cardiac MRI images from the UK Biobank, a biomedical database and research resource, scientists discovered 49 new genetic loci associated with cardiac morphological traits of high statistical significance, as well as 25 additional loci with significant evidence.
These results have important implications for cardiology and individual medicine. Understanding the genetic basis of heart traits paves the way for targeted treatments and interventions for individuals at risk of heart disease.
