Apple will allow the downloading of applications from developer sites, without going through the App Store. The new rule applies only to developers from EU countries, Apple said in a statement.

For users to have access to download an app outside of the App Store, the developer must indicate their resource in App Store Connect. The developer must also be registered in the EU as a legal entity, participate in the Apple Developer Program for two consecutive years, and have at least 1 million app downloads in the previous year.

After the first million app downloads per year, the developer will have to pay a fee of 0.5 euros per app download.

In order to download an application outside of the App Store, the user must confirm the developer in the iPhone settings.
