Qualcomm unveiled its latest product for high-end smartphones during the Qualcomm Night event of the same name. Although the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is more powerful and efficient than the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 manufactured on Samsung’s 4nm process, thanks to the use of TSMC’s N4 process, it doesn’t bring major changes.

For example, the clock speeds of all CPU cores have been increased by 7% to 12%, while the Adreno GPU is clocked 10% higher than before. In their own words, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is still 15% more affordable with ‘typical usage patterns’ that should provide longer battery life, despite higher clocks. Other features remained the same, including the X65 5G modem, Spectra isp, and encode/decode blocks.

Clock Speeds CPU Cores
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
Cortex-X2 3.0GHz 3.2GHz
Cortex-A710 2.5GHz 2.8GHz
Cortex-A510 1.8GHz 2.0GHz

The first phones with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 are expected to arrive in the third quarter of this year. Qualcomm has already reported that devices from Asus, Honor, Motorola, OnePlus and Xiaomi are in the program.
