A new analysis from RevenueCat shows that even the best subscription apps don’t make that much money. Only 5% earn an income that exceeds the income of the rest by 200 times! And half of all applications generate less than $50 per month.

The RevenueCat report analyzed data from 29,000 apps and found that only one in six earn more than $1,000 a month.

At the same time, application categories vary widely; While health and fitness apps are the most profitable apps, travel and business apps are lagging even at the top.

A cold shower for those dreaming of “mobile gold”? Not necessary. The subscription market is growing, people are spending more and more, and smart developers are finding new ways to make money.

But if you think your app will take off on its own, the RevenueCat report is a great wake-up call.
