In the open letter, Berners-Lee laments the “concentration of power” on the Internet, which contradicts his original vision of a decentralized network.
He believes that over the last 10 years the internet has become a tool for “the interests of a few corporations”, which has undermined its values.
“The Internet was supposed to be a tool for human empowerment, but instead it contributed to its destruction,” Berners-Lee writes.
He points out two main problems: the concentration of power and the market for personal data. According to him, big companies are segmenting the network, exploiting users and using their data for targeted advertising.
