Cards from the Russian payment system began to be accepted in Cuba last spring. Six months later, it was possible to pay in rubles. Currently, says the Minister of Tourism, Mir cards are accepted throughout the country, but not all establishments are equipped with suitable POS terminals.

The Cuban authorities are going to make the acceptance of Mir cards a mandatory condition for establishments to operate in the country.

“We will make it impossible to have a point of sale that accepts cards and at the same time does not accept the Mir card,” Granda told the TASS agency.

At the same time, the minister admitted that it would take a long time to reprogram all POS terminals. However, Granda added that today there are around 20 thousand points with terminals that receive Mir in the country.

It was previously reported that transactions worth $2.7 million were carried out over the course of several months with the help of Mir.

On Tuesday it became known that most banks in Armenia will stop accepting Mir cards. However, a subsidiary of the Russian VTB operates in the country and its ATMs will be an exception.
