The launch of the Soyuz launch vehicle to the International Space Station did not take place due to a technical error. The cause was a voltage drop in the chemical current source, Roscosmos director Yuri Borisov told RIA Novosti.

The rocket launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome was canceled at 16:21 Moscow time and NASA broadcast the event live. Cosmonauts Oleg Novitsky from Russia, Marina Vasilevskaya from Belarus and Tracy Dyson from the United States were to go to the ISS.

Cosmonautics historian Alexander Zheleznyakov noted that this is the first cancellation in the history of Russian cosmonautics of the launch of a launch vehicle with a crew inside.

The next Soyuz launch attempt was provisionally scheduled for Saturday, March 23.
