After blessing the end of Windows 7, Microsoft it revealed will end support for updates for Windows 8.1 on January 10, 2023. Users currently using the operating system will be notified via pop-ups from July of this year.

Notifications will be similar to those used to notify Windows 7 users that system support will be discontinued. Security updates will no longer be offeredand users won’t even be able to pay for extended updates with the Extended Security Update (ESU) to continue using the platform.

Given Windows 8.1’s history, Microsoft’s decision comes as no surprise. The system, which has existed since 2013, was an unsuccessful attempt by the company founded by Bill Gates to fix Windows 8 bugs.

This new move brought a more colorful vibe reminiscent of a smartphone interface, in addition to the return of the more decentralized Start Menu. It looks interesting in theory, but in practice the confirmation was not positive. There was a lot of criticism and although a user base was retained, the project failed to move forward with the public.

Microsoft’s vision was to revolutionize the system, which will also be applied to the latest mobile phones. Lumiaequipped with Windows Phone. Both the discontinued smartphones and Windows 8 and 8.1 remain in the minds of users as a bad memory.
