A series of scandals involving failures in Boeing aircraft led to changes in the company’s management. Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun will step down from his role at the end of 2024, the company said.
Chairman of the board of directors, Larry Kellner, and CEO of the commercial flights division, Stan Deal, also left the position. Kellner’s place was temporarily taken by Steve Mollenkopf, under whose leadership Boeing will elect a new head of the board of directors.
In March, Boeing failed 33 of 89 inspections conducted as part of an audit by U.S. aviation regulators. This audit was preceded by incidents with Boeing 737 aircraft breakdowns.
In one case, the plane’s emergency exit hatch fell out, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing at the Portland airport. After this incident, Boeing fired the head of the 737 Max program, Ed Clark, who oversaw aircraft production at the Boeing plant.
