Google announced on the official Android website that Apple will add support for RCS messages to iOS in the fall of 2024.
This probably happened after the release of iOS 18 in September this year.
RCS is a cross-platform standard that is meant to be an alternative to SMS and works over the Internet. With no character or media limits, RCS allows you to see how a person has read your message, plus the ability to create group chats and provide message status.
